Job Description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies Limited in Jeffrey’s Bay is looking for a Security Guard to provide security services in accordance with the Private Security Industry Regulations Act 56 of 2001.
The successful candidate will help protect company assets, property, employees, and customers by maintaining a safe and secure environment. The role involves identifying suspicious activities, investigating disturbances, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and company procedures.
Minimum Requirements
Essential
Grade 12 – Matric or Senior Certificate
PSIRA Grade C accreditation
Minimum 3 years’ exposure in the retail industry (shopping malls, warehouses, or similar environments)
Advantageous
At least 1 year previous experience in a similar role
Job Specification
The Security Guard will be responsible for the following duties:
Remain vigilant and alert to identify suspicious activities and apprehend criminals when necessary.
Conduct random patrols to ensure visibility and reduce risks.
Monitor and control access to premises for both vehicles and pedestrians.
Investigate and report signs of damage or unlawful entry to management.
Act as a visible deterrent against theft, damage, or criminal activity.
Provide professional and friendly assistance to customers, staff, and visitors.
Perform access control duties, including searches of staff, suppliers, and merchandisers.
Maintain and complete registers and occurrence books.
Cancel staff purchases and declared goods when required.
Supervise refuse removal according to company standards.
Protect company property and assets from dishonest or malicious acts.
Ensure presence at the assigned post at all times during duty hours.
Maintain good customer service relations with internal and external customers.
Report suspicious behaviour by staff, customers, or suppliers.
Be present and vigilant during opening and closing procedures.
Ensure doors and windows are locked and water taps turned off when applicable.
Conduct daily personnel frisking and vehicle searches.
Report incidents verbally and submit detailed written reports.
Contact police or emergency authorities when required.
Monitor alarm systems and CCTV cameras.
Provide assistance to emergency response teams when necessary.
Maintain order during evacuation procedures and assembly points.
Provide security advice and safety warnings to staff and visitors.
Take accurate notes of daily activities and unusual occurrences.
Enforce rules and regulations to prevent criminal activities.
Perform special duties such as answering calls, responding to messages, and running department errands when required.
Competencies
Essential
Knowledge of PSIRA regulations
Fire emergency and Health & Safety training exposure
Ability to read, write, and speak English well
Advantageous
Knowledge of a third language
Special Conditions of Employment
Must be PSIRA registered
Grade C PSIRA accreditation required
Must be a South African citizen
Clear criminal and credit record (MIE check)
Driver’s license, PDP, and own reliable transport when deployed as a driver
