About the Internship
1ST Year Engineering Learner (In House) – Impala Platinum 2025 Impala Platinum, a leading South African platinum mining group, invites applications for its 1st Year Engineering Learner (In House) programme. This exciting opportunity is offered through the Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) at the Rustenburg operations. The goal is to provide practical training and applied competence in key engineering trades to qualify candidates as artisans. Successful learners will gain experience in the following trades: Electrician, Boilermaker, Fitter, and Rigger.
This learnership is ideal for individuals with a passion for engineering and a desire to pursue a technical career within the mining and metals sector. As a proud Level 1 contributor to transformation, Implats remains committed to empowering youth through skills development.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Participate in a structured artisan training programme combining on-the-job and classroom training
- Assist qualified artisans with technical tasks including:
- Repair, replacement, and maintenance of engineering equipment
- Fabrication and construction using engineering tools and principles
- Perform technical fault diagnosis and basic problem solving
- Engage in practical training under the supervision of qualified mentors (artisans or foremen)
- Comply with Implats safety regulations, operational policies, and engineering standards
- Gain exposure to engineering supervision by occasionally acting in a leadership capacity
- Complete all required training phases in accordance with qualification requirements
- Support efforts to reduce equipment failures and production interruptions
- Demonstrate teamwork and a commitment to continuous learning
Who Should Apply?
This opportunity is ideal for individuals who have already completed relevant foundational engineering education and are looking to further their skills through an accredited artisan programme. Preference will be given to current engineering employees, and to designated group candidates in line with the company’s Employment Equity Plan and Recruitment Policy.
Requirements
- Minimum N2 qualification with four (4) engineering subjects OR NCV Level 4 with seven subjects (Mathematics must be passed with at least 40%)
- Completed serviceman training programme is essential
- Candidates must:
- Undergo assessment and be recommended for a formal interview
- Obtain a valid Red Ticket (Medical Fitness Certificate)
- Complete a Risk Factor Assessment (RFA) and Heat Tolerance Screening (HTS)
- Internal candidates must attach a line manager’s approval to their application
