JMPD Pointsmen/Patrollers 2025 | Grade 10 The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) is seeking dedicated and vigilant Pointsmen/Patrollers to join the Regional Operations team. This role involves active patrolling in designated areas to uphold law and order, ensuring public safety, and preventing criminal activities in line with legal frameworks, including the Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977, the National Road Traffic Act, and applicable City of Johannesburg By-Laws. Successful candidates will play a crucial role in managing traffic, enforcing municipal regulations, and enhancing security within local communities.

As of January 29, 2025, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has not announced new recruitment drives for Pointsmen or Patrollers positions. The most recent recruitment for Pointsmen occurred in 2023, when 200 individuals were appointed to manage traffic congestion in Johannesburg.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: Minimum Grade 10 (NQF Level 2)
- Criminal Record: No previous convictions or pending criminal cases
- Additional Attributes: Physically fit, observant, and capable of working under pressure in a dynamic law enforcement environment
Key Responsibilities
As a Pointsman/Patroller, you will be responsible for:
- Traffic Management & Control
- Directing and regulating traffic flow to ensure road safety
- Assisting motorists in high-risk areas and peak traffic times
- Collaborating with JMPD officers to reduce road congestion and violations
- Community Safety & Public Service
- Participating in public safety initiatives and community awareness programs
- Assisting in crime prevention operations in line with the Batho Pele Principles
- Ensuring compliance with municipal regulations through proactive patrolling
- School Patrols & Pedestrian Safety
- Providing safety assistance at school crossings
- Enhancing the protection of children and pedestrians in busy traffic zones
