Job Description:

The primary role of a Junior Fire Fighter is to protect Sasol’s assets, including its legal partnership agreements, against adverse outcomes resulting from safety, health, environmental, and quality (SHERQ) related emergencies. This position is crucial in maintaining a secure and compliant environment, ensuring the well-being of personnel, and safeguarding the company’s resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply best practices in SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) management during all emergency activities.
  • Follow detailed instructions and perform duties diligently to handle emergencies effectively.
  • Actively participate in training to maintain optimal mental and physical readiness for incident management.
  • Engage in Key Performance Area (KPA) and Personal Development Plan (PDP) discussions to enhance performance.
  • Ensure adherence to KPAs and timely completion of PDP actions.
  • Collaborate effectively with all stakeholders to maintain a high standard of emergency response.
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations as per established time standards.
  • Take part in emergency preparedness activities within the plant.
  • Propose and implement improvements to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of emergency management activities.
  • Contribute to overall safety improvements through constructive feedback and suggestions.

Ideal Candidate:

To qualify for this critical role, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Grade 12 with Mathematical Literacy or equivalent or higher.
  • Must be medically fit as per the relevant Fire Fighter fitness level assessment.
  • Certification in Fire Fighter 1 & 2 (NFPA 1001) — Mandatory.
  • Hazmat Awareness and Operations Certification (NFPA 1072/472) — Mandatory.
  • Valid Code C1 Driver’s License — Strongly preferred.
  • Registration as a Basic Ambulance Assistant (BAA) with HPCSA — Desired.
  • Registration as an Intermediate Life Support (ILS) provider with HPCSA — Desired.

  • Swiftly reacting to emergencies, ensuring compliance with established standards.
  • Actively engaging in ongoing training programs to maintain and elevate your skillset.
  • Collaborating with emergency management teams to execute comprehensive emergency preparedness activities.
  • Identifying potential risks, proposing improvements, and contributing to the optimization of emergency protocols.
  • Consistently monitoring and enhancing personal performance through PDP and KPA discussions.
