Job Description
The primary purpose of the Insurance Claims Agent role is to efficiently administer and manage the processing of non-medical credit life insurance claims. The role ensures that all claims-related matters and queries are handled with precision and care, aligning with Capitec Bank’s standards and regulatory compliance requirements. The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating the validity of claims such as retrenchment or death claims, ensuring they are processed within established turnaround times while delivering excellent client service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately assess non-medical credit life claims (retrenchment, death, etc.)
- Ensure claims are processed according to regulatory and internal guidelines
- Deliver exceptional customer service while responding to queries
- Maintain consistent communication with clients and stakeholders throughout the claims process
- Adhere strictly to internal procedures and service level agreements
- Manage day-to-day claims administration and ensure documentation is accurate and up to date
- Execute any additional tasks or assignments relevant to the role and business unit
- Support the achievement of the department’s strategic objectives and business goals
Ideal Candidate
The ideal applicant for this opportunity is someone with at least a year of hands-on experience in processing or assessing non-medical credit insurance claims, preferably within the financial services or banking industry. The candidate should be proactive, organized, and able to work under pressure while maintaining a client-first approach. A solid understanding of insurance legislation and claims processing principles is essential.
Minimum Requirements:
- Qualification: Grade 12 National Certificate / Vocational
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year in assessing/administering credit insurance claims
- Legal Knowledge: Experience working within the legal and regulatory framework of the South African insurance sector
Preferred Qualifications and Knowledge:
- Qualification: A National Diploma in Insurance, Financial Management, or related fields
- Knowledge of Financial Regulations:
- Treating Customers Fairly (TCF)
- Financial Intelligence Centre Act (FICA)
- Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA)
- Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services (FAIS)
Role Responsibility
The Insurance Claims Agent will be responsible for managing the entire lifecycle of a claim—from intake and assessment to resolution and client communication. This includes verifying supporting documentation, applying risk assessment frameworks, and maintaining regulatory compliance. The agent must ensure timely feedback to clients while upholding Capitec’s standards of service excellence.
Daily Responsibilities:
- Handle incoming claim requests and review documentation for completeness
- Verify the claim’s authenticity and the claimant’s eligibility
- Apply the appropriate claim assessment methodology
- Communicate with clients regarding claim status and required documents
- Collaborate with internal teams to streamline claim resolution
- Maintain accurate records and logs of processed claims
- Stay updated with changes in insurance regulations and policies
