Job Description
As a Plant Operator, your primary role will be to assemble initiating system products used in blasting and mining activities. These products include:
- Shocktube assemblies
- Surface assemblies
- Electronics assemblies
- Export detonators
Your responsibilities will involve a combination of manual assembly, operating machinery, handling raw materials, and executing tasks aligned with production planning. You will also be responsible for adhering to strict safety, health, environmental (SHE), and quality standards.
Key operational tasks will include:
- Platting of detonators and insertion of rubber sleeves into non-propagating blocks
- Tagging, printing, and Cobra Clip box assembly
- Operating coiling machines for raw materials servicing
- Operating machines for electronic assembly
- Soldering wires onto EIU Assemblies (NETSHOCK, DIGISHOT, HOTSHOT, SMARTSHOT)
- Operating long-length coiling machinery
- Performing ultrasonic sealing
- Assembling complete initiating systems from various components
Additionally, operators are expected to:
- Follow all plant-specific SHE rules and procedures
- Maintain high standards in product quality and cleanliness
- Perform basic maintenance such as machine cleaning and decontamination

Role Responsibility
The successful candidates will be accountable for:
- Efficient assembly of initiating systems in line with daily production goals
- Maintaining the safety and integrity of all manufactured components
- Complying with internal quality assurance and control procedures
- Contributing to team goals and collaboration
- Maintaining accurate documentation where applicable
- Minimizing production waste and supporting lean manufacturing principles
These operators form the backbone of the SF2 Plant‘s production team and directly impact the output and delivery of key mining products.
Skills & Attributes
- Educational Background:
- Grade 12 (Matric) or N3 equivalent
- Preferably includes technical subjects such as Physical Science, Maths, or Mechanical Technology
- Work Experience:
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or assembly-line environment is essential
- Experience working with machinery and hand tools will be advantageous
- Technical Abilities:
- Mechanically inclined
- Comfortable using coiling machines, ultrasonic sealers, soldering tools, and electronic assembly equipment
- Soft Skills:
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- High sense of responsibility and accountability
- Ability to stay calm under pressure and repetitive tasks
- Adaptability to different roles within the assembly line
- Compliance:
- Sound understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations
- Awareness of quality assurance standards and importance in manufacturing
