Job Description:
The ECD Learnership Programme is a structured work-based learning programme that combines classroom-based education with practical on-the-job training. Learners will be placed at ECD centres across South Africa where they will:
- Assist with planning and delivering educational activities tailored to children’s developmental stages
- Monitor and record the progress of young learners
- Ensure a safe, nurturing environment for children’s physical, emotional, and mental development
- Provide basic health care and emotional support to children under guidance
- Promote teamwork through active participation with colleagues, caregivers, and community members
- Learn and apply ECD policies and procedures in real-time settings
- Work with mentors and supervisors to reflect on practice and improve professional skills
The learnership is aligned with a National Qualifications Framework (NQF) qualification and is recognized by the Department of Higher Education and Training and SETAs.
Requirements:
To be considered for the Early Childhood Development (ECD) Learnership Programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a South African citizen with a valid South African ID
- Aged between 18 and 35 years
- Must have completed Matric (National Senior Certificate) or a National Certificate: Vocational (NCV)
- Must be currently unemployed and not involved in any other learnership or study program
- Willing to commit to the full duration of the learnership
- Must possess good communication skills in English and preferably in one additional South African language
- Basic computer literacy is an advantage
- Must demonstrate a passion for education and child development
Role Responsibility:
As a participant in the ECD Learnership Programme, you will be responsible for the following key activities:
- Planning and Preparing: Assist in designing daily lesson plans and learning activities suitable for early childhood development
- Facilitating and Monitoring: Support the facilitation of learning sessions and monitor the physical, emotional, and cognitive growth of children
- Providing Care: Provide holistic care including feeding, hygiene, emotional support, and creating a nurturing atmosphere
- Assessing Learning Outcomes: Collaborate with supervisors to assess children’s developmental milestones and prepare reports
- Promoting Safety: Ensure a clean, secure environment that meets the health and safety regulations for early learners
- Working with Others: Communicate and collaborate effectively with fellow educators, parents, and stakeholders to optimize children’s growth
- Managing Learning Programs: Assist in organizing and implementing structured learning programs while maintaining records of attendance and progress
