RCL Foods, a leading player in the South African fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry, is currently hiring for a Code 10 Driver Salesman to join their dynamic baking business unit in Empangeni. This permanent opportunity is ideal for an experienced and motivated driver who thrives in a high-paced, customer-focused environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for transporting bread and confectionery products, engaging with clients (both traders and retail stores), managing sales transactions directly from the delivery vehicle (including cash handling), and expanding the customer base through proactive engagement.
You will report directly to the Distribution Manager and play a key role in ensuring excellent customer service, efficient delivery processes, and consistent route optimization.
Tasks
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and hygiene standards
- Conduct daily vehicle checks and report defects using checklists
- Ensure compliance with all road safety regulations
- Handle stock loading and ensure alignment with customer orders
- Monitor crate quantities and ensure same-day returns
- Supervise and mentor van assistants and report any personnel issues
- Drive customer satisfaction by offering friendly, respectful service
- Identify sales growth opportunities and potential new clients
- Ensure prompt deliveries and communicate shortages or delivery issues
- Secure cash and paperwork throughout the day using company procedures
- Accurately complete documentation such as invoices, loading sheets, logbooks, and petrol slips
- Perform competitor analysis including pricing, product, and service comparisons
- Assist in other operational tasks such as loading, van assistant duties, or transporting materials and staff
- Promote health and safety compliance and report medical conditions that may affect driving ability
Qualifications
- Matric / Grade 12 Certificate
- Valid Code 10 Driver’s License
- Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP)
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
- Strong basic numeracy skills
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years driving experience in the FMCG sector
- Demonstrated experience in delivering and selling FMCG products to existing and new clients
- Comfortable with handling cash transactions and securing sales revenue
- Previous experience in crate recovery and route performance is an added advantage
- Able to work flexible hours, including weekends, public holidays, and during driver absenteeism or emergency situations
