The Department of Employment and Labour has officially announced the recruitment of 130 unemployed South African graduates for the 2025/2026 Presidential Youth Development Programme. This nationally recognized initiative is designed to provide practical work exposure in line with each candidate’s academic qualification. Successful applicants will be appointed on a 10-month fixed-term contract, receiving a monthly stipend of R7,450.63. Background & Job Description
The Presidential Youth Development Programme aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical workplace application. Through the Deployment Programme: Counsellor, graduates will actively participate in supporting employment counselling processes, research labour market needs, and provide administrative services aligned with recruitment best practices. These roles are strategically placed across provincial offices to address regional employment demands and ensure graduates gain diverse experiences from various socio-economic settings.

Tasks
Successful candidates will be expected to perform the following duties during their placement:

  • Provide administrative support to Employment Counsellors.
  • Conduct labour market research and analyse employment counselling strategies.
  • Facilitate and implement recruitment and selection processes for job seekers.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to verify the quality of services offered to the public.
  • Assist with the registration of job seekers on the ESSA database.

Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following academic criteria:

  • Hold a three-year tertiary qualification (NQF Level 6/7) in Psychology or Industrial Psychology.
  • Candidates holding an Honours Degree in the aforementioned fields will be given preference.
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Registered Counsellor (Independent Practice) or Psychometrist (Independent Practice) will be an added advantage.

Experience
No prior work experience is required, making this programme ideal for fresh graduates or early-career professionals looking to gain relevant exposure in the labour and employment field. However, a demonstrable interest in career guidance, counselling, and labour market trends will support a successful application.
