Background & Job Description
The Road Accident Fund (RAF) is a vital public entity mandated to compensate individuals injured in motor vehicle accidents within South African borders. The organization is driven by a mission to rehabilitate victims compassionately and ensure timely financial support while promoting safer roads.
As part of its Operations Division, RAF is hiring two Administrative Assistants: Legal Cost Validation in Durban. This role is pivotal in ensuring bills and legal cost-related files are properly managed, validated, and processed within defined timeframes. The successful candidates will handle file allocations, conduct legal cost validations, and perform various administrative tasks to support legal cost operations.
Tasks
Perform Office Administration:
- Pre-screen incoming files and legal cost bills to verify regional accuracy.
- Update internal records to ensure alignment with the claims system (claim numbers, attorney details, etc.).
- Stamp, sort, and separate fee analyses from taxation documents and block settlements.
- Distinguish whether bills relate to High Court merits, quantum, or both.
- Identify and redirect misallocated files to the appropriate regional office.
- Digitize and prepare files for inter-regional processing.
- Maintain updated records of file status and legal cost payments.
- Track file movements and handle document filing/retrieval.
- Respond to internal payment queries and external calls from attorneys.
- Communicate with legal practitioners to collect missing data or documents.
Perform Validation of Allocated Bills:
- Confirm bill content matches associated attorney and claim data.
- Check claim numbers and attorney information for accuracy.
- Review previous payments and ensure legal cost system is updated.
- Ensure offers are loaded correctly in the legal cost system.
- Allocate legal cost files and bills within designated turnaround times.
Batching and Indexing:
- Print payment histories and manually record bills.
- Prepare files for officer authorization.
- Receive payment reports and forward them to finance for processing within deadline.
Provide Reports as Required:
- Maintain daily statistics on work completed and files assessed.
- Submit daily and monthly reports as per management instructions.
Qualifications
- Minimum Qualification: National Senior Certificate (Matric/Grade 12) ā NQF Level 4
Experience
- Minimum Experience: 1 year in one or more of the following areas:
- Claims
- Litigation
- Summons processing
- Administration
- Registration and Data Capturing
