Background & Job Description
The Gauteng Department of Social Development is offering internship opportunities aimed at empowering unemployed youth through practical work experience in the fields of Procurement, Finance, Accounting, and Supply Chain. These internships are designed to equip youth with valuable workplace exposure and functional skills needed in the public sector.
The internship will place selected candidates across all corridors and institutions of the Department of Social Development in Gauteng. It is a hands-on learning initiative that will give interns a strong foundation in financial and procurement operations, supporting the department’s commitment to developing the next generation of skilled public servants.
Tasks
Interns will be expected to engage in the following tasks during their internship placement:
- Assist with processing invoices and financial documentation
- Participate in supply chain and procurement planning activities
- Maintain accurate records for audit and financial tracking
- Support financial managers in preparing monthly expenditure reports
- Aid in the processing and reconciliation of budgets
- Monitor logistics and support documentation for procurement processes
- Ensure compliance with government financial regulations and procedures
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following educational criteria to be considered for the internship:
- FET Certificate NQF Level 4 or 5 in Financial Management
- National Diploma or B Degree in:
- Financial Management
- Accounting
- Supply Chain Management
- Logistics
Experience
No previous work experience is required. The internship is aimed specifically at unemployed youth seeking their first opportunity to gain practical experience in a professional environment. However, applicants must demonstrate a willingness to learn, professional conduct, and the ability to adapt to a public service setting.
