Background & Job Description
Transnet Corporate Centre and Academy proudly presents an exciting Young Professional-in-Training (Heritage) opportunity for dynamic, passionate, and recently qualified graduates in the heritage, arts, and humanities sectors. This two-year structured programme aims to nurture future professionals by equipping them with valuable workplace experience across Transnet’s operations.

Candidates will benefit from a well-structured learning environment, on-the-job training, and meaningful participation in projects aligned with South Africa’s rich cultural and historical heritage. This opportunity is ideal for graduates eager to step into the professional world, especially those aspiring to contribute meaningfully to national heritage development.


Tasks
As a Young Professional-in-Training, you will participate in various heritage-related projects and administrative tasks, gaining real-world experience through:

  • Assisting with heritage-related tasks and responsibilities in different departments
  • Shadowing experienced professionals and attending departmental meetings and workshops
  • Supporting internal teams by understanding operational and project-based requirements
  • Engaging with clients to clearly understand their cultural and heritage needs
  • Acting as a contact point for both supplier and stakeholder queries
  • Conducting research, collecting data, and preparing project reports and presentations
  • Completing structured assignments and tasks under the guidance of a mentor or specialist

Qualifications
To be eligible for this programme, applicants must have completed any of the following accredited qualifications:

  • Degree or National Diploma in:
    • Heritage Studies
    • Fine Art
    • History
    • Curatorship
    • Visual Studies
    • Related Humanities disciplines

Note: Candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 35 to align with the youth development focus of the programme.


Experience

  • 0 to 1 year of relevant working experience
  • Familiarity with MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent command of written and verbal communication
  • High attention to detail and good organizational skills
  • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities and adaptability
