Background & Job Description
Lancet Laboratories is seeking a suitably qualified individual to join their dynamic team. This position supports the laboratory’s operational workflow through the receiving, processing, and logging of medical samples. The role also entails direct patient engagement, efficient sample distribution, hospital rounds, and administrative duties such as customer service and complaints resolution.
The Admin Clerk/Receptionist Intern will also manage reception responsibilities, including attending to visitors, cash transactions, and tracking sample deliveries. Candidates with a BSc degree will have an added advantage, although a Grade 12 certificate or NQF Level 4 qualification is the minimum requirement.
Tasks
- Sort and distribute samples according to established standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Register/log all samples and handle related queries in accordance with SOPs.
- Dispatch specimens and monitor report filing to meet laboratory turnaround times.
- Conduct hospital rounds for report delivery and specimen collection.
- Handle and escalate customer queries and complaints for swift resolution.
- Track sample delivery progress and liaise with couriers and laboratories.
- Identify and address pre-analytical process challenges or bottlenecks.
- Perform housekeeping tasks and prepare equipment following SOPs.
- Monitor and manage stock levels, ensuring timely reordering and delivery to doctor’s rooms.
- Provide front-desk reception services and direct clients appropriately.
- Process cash payments and ensure proper banking procedures.
- Use Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for reporting and documentation.
- Ensure strict adherence to company dress code and uniform policies.
- Apply customer service best practices in a professional and ethical manner.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 / Matric Certificate or NQF Level 4 qualification (compulsory)
- BSc Degree (Advantageous)
Experience
- 0–1 year of relevant working experience
- Familiarity with:
- Organisational policies and procedures
- Laboratory Information Systems
- Basic computer literacy
