Job Description
The Facilities Intern will be part of a collaborative team responsible for ensuring the optimal functioning of the HDA’s built environment. This includes learning the ropes in managing property operations, adhering to health and safety regulations, and supporting the agency’s day-to-day facilities and occupational services.
Interns will receive structured supervision, mentorship, and exposure to the critical areas of facilities management in a national development agency. Through this internship, candidates will:
- Gain hands-on experience in managing physical office space and facilities
- Understand compliance standards in property and occupational health & safety
- Learn to identify and resolve routine facility issues efficiently
- Participate in procurement and contractor liaison for facilities-related needs
- Understand project workflows in a government-supported development agency
Requirements
To qualify for the Facilities Internship Programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a South African citizen residing in Johannesburg
- Must hold a degree in one of the following fields:
- Facilities Management
- Occupational Health & Safety
- Property Management
- Or a closely related qualification
- Must not have any prior internship or work experience
- Must be available for the full duration of the 12-month internship

Role Responsibility
During the internship, the Facilities Intern will undertake the following responsibilities:
- Support in day-to-day coordination of office maintenance and property-related issues
- Assist with inventory management and office space planning
- Monitor compliance with health and safety policies and standards
- Assist in managing service provider contracts for facility services
- Support the Facilities Coordinator with administration and reporting tasks
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure a safe and efficient work environment
