The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has officially opened applications for its Internship Programme 2025. This initiative offers young South Africans an excellent opportunity to gain workplace experience, develop professional skills, and increase employability. Aimed at unemployed graduates and matriculants, the programme provides exposure across various disciplines that support South Africa’s education and administration systems.

What is the Basic Education (DBE) Internship Programme?
The DBE Internship Programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical employment readiness. It allows participants to gain:

  • On-the-job training and mentorship
  • Hands-on work experience within the education sector
  • Exposure to professional environments and administrative functions
  • Career development support aligned with national development goals

Role Responsibility
Successful candidates will be placed within different units of the DBE. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting departmental projects and administrative tasks
  • Conducting research and data analysis
  • Assisting with communication, reporting, and stakeholder engagement
  • Providing technical support in ICT, records management, or project management
  • Assisting with education-related initiatives and programme implementation

  • Unemployed graduates or matriculants (ages 18–35)

  • Good academic record and willingness to commit to the full internship term
  • Completion of the new Z83 application form with supporting documents

  • Contract Period: 24 months (fixed term)
  • Location: Department of Basic Education, Pretoria
