What is Moretele Municipality Finance Graduate Internship?
The Finance Graduate Internship at Moretele Local Municipality is a structured training programme that equips young graduates with hands-on exposure to municipal financial management. With five positions available, the programme aims to develop finance professionals who can contribute to efficient governance, accountability, and service delivery. Interns will gain exposure in critical areas such as budgeting, auditing, reporting, and supply chain management.

Programme Details

  • Location: Moretele Local Municipality
  • Number of Posts: 5
  • Stipend: R120 000 per annum
  • Contract: Fixed-term, 3 years
  • Target Group: Unemployed graduates residing in the Moretele Local Municipality jurisdiction

Minimum Requirements
To be eligible for this opportunity, applicants must:

  • Hold a Grade 12 / Matric certificate
  • Have a BCom in Accounting or a National Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Internal Audit, or equivalent qualification
  • Be unemployed at the time of application
  • Reside within the Moretele Local Municipality jurisdiction

Role Responsibility
Successful interns will be placed within the Budget and Treasury Department as well as Internal Audit, where they will gain exposure to:

  • Reconciliations – balancing and verifying accounts
  • Capturing financial transactions – ensuring accurate records
  • Financial reporting – preparing and supporting municipal reports
  • Supply Chain Management (SCM) – procurement and compliance functions
  • Assets management – tracking and reporting municipal assets
  • Expenditure & salaries unit – payroll and expenditure controls
  • Revenue management – billing, collections, and financial sustainability
  • Internal audit – compliance checks, audits, and risk assessments
