Introduction

The 2025/2026 Learnership and Skills Programmes by We Invest Africa in partnership with the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) offer a golden opportunity for individuals eager to develop professionally and enter the workforce.

These 12-month accredited programmes target 30 unemployed individuals per course, providing them with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in critical sectors such as construction, agriculture, safety, plumbing, customer service, and more. Whether you’re looking to upskill or start a new career path, these programmes are designed to build your future.


What Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF)?

While this programme is not hosted by Transnet, it operates similarly in its mission of upskilling South Africans and contributing to national development. Transnet is a state-owned enterprise responsible for freight logistics in South Africa. It plays a major role in economic development through job creation and training opportunities like internships, learnerships, and artisan programmes. Similarly, the UIF Labour Activation Programme, together with We Invest Africa, aims to support economic empowerment by reducing unemployment through skill development.


Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the We Invest Africa UIF Learnership and Skills Programmes, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Must be currently unemployed
  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Possess a valid South African ID
  • Be between the ages of 18 to 55
  • Have passed Grade 10 or higher
  • Have an interest in the construction or building sector
  • Must not be currently enrolled in another learnership or education programme

Role Responsibility

Successful participants will be enrolled in one of the following Learnership Programmes (12 months), each leading to a National Certificate accredited by the NQF:

  • National Certificate: Mixed Farming Systems – NQF Level 2
  • National Certificate: Plant Production – NQF Level 3
  • National Certificate: Landscaping – NQF Level 2
  • National Certificate: Animal Production – NQF Level 2
  • National Certificate: Construction Roadworks – NQF Level 3
  • National Certificate: Construction Health and Safety – NQF Level 3
  • National Certificate: Community House Building – NQF Level 2
  • National Certificate: Water and Wastewater Process Control – NQF Level 3

In addition, participants can also be placed in Skills Programmes, designed for faster training and more focused outcomes:

  • Entrepreneurship Support
  • Professional Driving
  • Farming
  • Horticulture
  • Construction Health and Safety
  • Customer Services
  • Plumbing
  • Poultry Farming
  • Plastering
  • Environmental Practices
  • Hygiene and Cleaning
  • End User Computing
  • Solar Installation
  • Bricklaying

Skills and Attributes

Ideal candidates will possess or develop the following skills and qualities during the course:
