Introduction
The Department of Education is inviting qualified and passionate individuals to apply for the role of Child and Youth Care Worker (Grade 1 – 3) at Rosenhof Special School, Bloemfontein. Minimum Requirements
- A Grade 12 Certificate
- Child and Youth Care Certificate or equivalent qualification
- Recommended: At least 3 years of experience working with youth with severe emotional and behavioural challenges (advantageous)
Role Responsibility
As a Child and Youth Care Worker, you will:
- Support educators and learners by addressing barriers to learning
- Create social conditions that enable effective teaching and learning
- Provide developmental child and youth care services to learners with social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties.
- Promote the holistic development of learners in need of care and protection
- Assess learners using the Developmental Assessment Model and design Individual Developmental Plans (IDPs)
- Review and update Individual Developmental Plans regularly
- Develop and implement support programmes tailored to learners’ needs
- Keep accurate records of daily observations, process notes, and progress reports for all learners under your care
Skills and Attributes
The ideal candidate should demonstrate the following:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Empathy, patience, and the ability to connect with learners facing emotional challenges
- Good problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities
- Commitment to child development and learner well-being
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary educational team
- Strong organisational and record-keeping skills
