The Ramp Agent role plays a crucial part in ensuring smooth aircraft operations by monitoring and enforcing the correct loading and offloading of SAA aircraft. This position guarantees that vendors comply with service level standards while safeguarding aircraft and stakeholder safety during turnarounds.

As a Ramp Agent, you will also:

  • Record and report service deficiencies for effective remediation.
  • Contribute to optimizing SAAā€™s on-time performance.
  • Act as the airlineā€™s ā€œvoice and eyesā€ on the ramp, delivering professional, time-sensitive services.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Excellence

  • Coordinate and oversee all airside activities to ensure seamless customer experiences.
  • Facilitate communication between stakeholders to uphold SAAā€™s high service standards.
  • Monitor and report equipment readiness and service level compliance.

Safety and Compliance

  • Safeguard aircraft during loading/offloading and pushback operations.
  • Conduct detailed inspections of aircraft doors, panels, and gear for damage or FOD (Foreign Object Debris).
  • Confirm proper disconnection of ground power and ensure engine start safety protocols.

Customer Support

  • Address passenger queries related to reservations, seats, and tarmac transfers.
  • Organize wheelchair and medical assistance for passengers when needed.

Qualifications and Experience

To qualify for this prestigious role, you need:

  • Minimum: Grade 12 (Mathematics is advantageous).
  • A 3-year Diploma or relevant NQF Level 6 qualification with 4 years of experience in an airline operational environment.
  • Current certifications in Dangerous Goods Group C, Aircraft Weight and Balance, and Passenger Handling.
  • A valid driverā€™s license (minimum Code 8).

Knowledge and Skills You Bring

  • Comprehensive understanding of airline operations and service supplier roles.
  • Knowledge of aircraft types, baggage procedures, and aviation security protocols.
  • Skills in time management, negotiation, conflict resolution, and planning.
