Background & Job Description

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Pretoria is offering a unique local internship opportunity for a motivated and dedicated individual who is passionate about gender equity, development, and effective stakeholder coordination. As the Administrator and Project Support Intern, you will work under the direct guidance of the Gender M&E Analyst. This role is integral to supporting the Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) Directorate through administrative, information management, and stakeholder coordination functions.

The selected intern will help optimize operational efficiency and ensure that data management and project tracking are conducted professionally and efficiently. A structured work-plan will be put in place, offering not only clear deliverables but also learning milestones to enhance your exposure to international development work.


Tasks

  • Information and Data Support
    • Organize and update a secure central GBVF Information Repository.
    • Collect and catalogue GBVF-related reports and resources from civil society, government, and research institutions.
    • Assist with the regular updating of key documents like CSO reports and Response Fund submissions.
    • Track and monitor data requests and usage in collaboration with the GBVF team.
  • Stakeholder Engagement Database
    • Support the creation and maintenance of a stakeholder engagement spreadsheet.
    • Input contact details, sector affiliations, and engagement notes.
    • Update the stakeholder database quarterly for accuracy and completeness.
  • Meeting and Event Coordination
    • Schedule meetings and coordinate engagements with key stakeholders.
    • Prepare meeting agendas, record minutes, and circulate outcomes.
    • Track follow-ups and ensure accountability from prior engagements.
    • Provide logistical support during consultations, workshops, and other stakeholder events.
  • Project Tracking and Research
    • Conduct online research on GBVF-related projects in South Africa.
    • Attend virtual meetings and record essential takeaways.
    • Monitor internal project milestones and deliver progress updates.

Qualifications

To qualify for this internship, applicants must meet the following academic criteria:

  • Must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree programme and have completed at least one full academic year; or
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (Master’s or higher); or
  • Have recently graduated (within one year) from a recognized tertiary institution; or
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional trainee programme with internship eligibility.

Additional Requirements:

  • Demonstrated interest in developmental work and global social justice.
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
  • Flexibility and cultural adaptability.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills.

Experience

  • Experience working or volunteering in a development agency is desirable.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills with attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to adapt in diverse environments and multicultural teams.
  • Initiative and sound judgment in high-pressure settings.
