Background & Job Description
Anglo American is currently recruiting for a Diesel Mechanic UG to join its Platinum business unit at the Amandelbult Complex in Thabazimbi, South Africa. This role is a 2.9.2 legal appointment in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), Act of 1996, and is focused on maintaining, installing, and commissioning underground mining machinery and equipment in line with agreed standards.

Tasks
- Attend and actively participate in safety meetings and conduct risk assessments
- Allocate tasks to subordinates and manage breakdowns and emergencies effectively
- Ensure availability of materials, spares, and equipment needed for daily operations
- Provide on-the-job training and coaching to subordinates
- Apply judgment in the replacement of worn or damaged components
- Accurately record the results of all legal machinery examinations
- Complete job cards with full descriptions of work performed and spares utilized (PMs)
- Respond to and attend all breakdowns and emergency repairs in a timely manner
Qualifications
- Minimum Education: Grade 10 or Technical Trade Specific N2
- Preferred: Grade 12 or Technical Trade Specific N3
- Certification:
- Certified Competent Diesel Mechanic (Trade Test Certified)
- Additional trade certificates will be considered an advantage
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years’ post-trade experience as an artisan in a mechanized underground mining environment
- Hands-on experience with SANDVIK LP equipment and Fermel Mediator equipment
- Strong understanding of underground machinery maintenance protocols
Knowledge and Skills
- English literacy (ability to speak, read, and write fluently)
- Availability to perform standby duties, overtime, and rotational shifts
- Familiarity with risk assessment procedures and safety compliance
- Valid driver’s license (Code 08)
- Basic computer literacy (advantageous for logging tasks and maintenance records)
