Background & Job Description
Anglo American, one of the world’s most prominent mining corporations, is offering an exciting Permitting Internship at Twickenham Platinum Mine under its Platinum Group Metals (PGMs) division in Polokwane, South Africa. This internship is designed to equip local community members with valuable work experience in the field of environmental permitting and mining compliance.
The internship forms part of Anglo American’s broader commitment to community development and employment equity, with a preference given to applicants from host communities. Selected candidates will be immersed in a structured 12-month programme that bridges the gap between academic learning and professional practice in the mining industry.
Tasks
Interns selected for the Permitting Internship Programme will engage in:
- Assisting with the management of environmental permitting and compliance processes
- Supporting the compilation and submission of regulatory reports
- Participating in audits and assessments relating to environmental and legal standards
- Engaging in SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) initiatives and site inspections
- Collaborating with engineering, geology, and legal teams on permitting requirements
- Documenting and maintaining accurate compliance records
- Contributing to sustainable mining practices through regulatory alignment
Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following minimum educational requirements to qualify:
- Diploma or Degree in one of the following fields:
- Environmental Engineering/Environmental Management
- Law (Legal Studies)
- Mining Engineering
- Other relevant Engineering disciplines
- SHEQ Management
- Geology
- Additional Requirements:
- Valid Driver’s License is advantageous
- Academic record must be provided
- Submit a full, updated CV
- Certified copy of ID
- Certified copies of all qualifications
Experience
No formal work experience is required for this internship. However, Anglo American values:
