Introduction
Metropolitan Life, a trusted financial services brand with a legacy of more than 125 years, is offering a unique learnership opportunity for unemployed South African youth. Operating across South Africa and in 12 other African countries, Metropolitan is committed to creating financial solutions that foster empowerment, growth, and security. The 12-month Learnership Programme is designed for individuals with a strong interest in sales and customer service who wish to establish a career in the insurance industry. Starting in October 2025, this programme provides both practical work experience and the opportunity to obtain a Wealth Management NQF Level 4 qualification.
What is the Metropolitan Learnership Programme?
This learnership offers unemployed youth an entry point into the insurance sector, focusing on skills development, workplace exposure, and a structured path to a recognized qualification. Learners will gain industry knowledge, work with experienced professionals, and engage in client-facing activities that prepare them for a rewarding career in financial services.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 12 or equivalent NQF 4 qualification
- Aged between 18 and 35 years
- South African citizen by birth
- Currently unemployed
- Belong to a previously disadvantaged group
- People living with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply
Role Responsibilities
Learners will be expected to:
- Complete all theoretical learning modules and assessments
- Handle administrative and reporting duties efficiently and within deadlines
- Compile, collate, and distribute documents according to set standards
- Attend to client queries professionally to enhance the client experience
- Direct queries to appropriate stakeholders and assist in resolutions
- Uphold housekeeping and operational standards in the workplace
Skills and Attributes
To succeed in the programme, learners should demonstrate:
- Strong attention to detail with effective time management
- Good numerical reasoning and analytical skills
- Fluency in English (written and verbal communication)
- Relationship management and stakeholder engagement capabilities
- Proficiency in basic computer applications
