Introduction
The Skills Development Corporation (SDC) offers learnerships that provide unemployed youth and persons with disabilities an opportunity to gain workplace experience and qualifications while supporting businesses in meeting their B-BBEE Skills Development targets. The programme is designed to build future-ready professionals while promoting inclusivity, growth, and empowerment across South Africa.
What is (SDC) Skills Development Corporation Learnership Application?
The SDC Learnership Application is the first step for unemployed or underemployed individuals to access accredited training programmes funded through client B-BBEE initiatives. By applying, learners enter a structured process that verifies eligibility, validates documents, and places successful candidates into suitable learnerships. These programmes combine theory and workplace practice, equipping learners with valuable qualifications and skills to boost employability.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Must be a South African citizen with valid ID
- Must have a school-leaving certificate or higher qualification
- Must be unemployed or underemployed
- Must have a clean criminal record
- Persons with disabilities must provide a valid medical certificate (in line with the Employment Equity Act 55 of 1998)
Role Responsibility
Successful applicants will be responsible for:
- Attending and participating fully in all learnership training sessions
- Completing all assignments, assessments, and workplace tasks
- Maintaining discipline, punctuality, and professionalism throughout the programme
- Contributing to the learning environment with commitment and active participation
- Signing and adhering to the learnership contract once placed
Skills and Attributes
Applicants are expected to demonstrate the following:

- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Positive attitude and resilience when facing challenges
- Basic computer literacy (advantageous for most programmes)
Application Process
The SDC application process includes several important steps:
- Step 1: Online Submission
Submit your details online through the SDC Student Hub for inclusion in the learner sourcing pool. Separate portals are available for abled and disabled applicants in both Johannesburg and Cape Town. - Step 2: Document Submission
Deliver original documents in person to the Johannesburg or Cape Town campus during specified hours. Documents include:- Certified copies of ID and highest qualification
- Proof of residence
- Updated CV
- Proof of disability (if applicable)
- 3-month recent bank statement
- SARS tax number
- Step 3: Validation
All documents are verified for authenticity and compliance. - Step 4: Interview
Shortlisted candidates attend an interview to assess communication, background, and suitability. - Step 5: Assessment Test
Applicants must achieve at least 80% on the assessment to progress. - Step 6: Validation & Database Inclusion
Approved learners are added to the validated applicant database. - Step 7: Learnership Placement
Placement depends on client demand. Once allocated, learners sign contracts and begin their training.
