What is Transnet Diesel Mechanic Apprenticeship Programme 2025?

This apprenticeship is a structured work-based learning initiative designed to develop fully qualified diesel mechanics. Apprentices gain supervised workplace experience under skilled professionals while attending structured theoretical classes at accredited training facilities.

The program’s goal is to produce well-rounded mechanics who can confidently plan, prepare, repair, and maintain diesel-powered systems. On successful completion, candidates receive a national qualification and are equipped to excel in the mechanical and automotive engineering sectors.

Role Responsibility

During the program, apprentices will be trained to:

• Plan and prepare work sites, ensuring tools, materials, and consumables are organized for operations
• Use hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments effectively
• Install, assemble, and fit electrical equipment and mechanical components
• Conduct tests, inspections, and commissioning of diesel systems and equipment
• Perform maintenance and repairs on mechanical and electrical assemblies
• Ensure compliance with safety standards while completing all tasks
