Job Description

As a Seasonal Labourer, the successful candidates will actively participate in essential on-farm operations and support research efforts under the guidance of farm supervisors. Responsibilities will include a variety of manual labor tasks that are central to the cultivation, maintenance, and harvesting of crops. The role will involve both independent and team-based work, offering candidates practical experience in tropical and subtropical fruit farming.

Key duties include:

  • Executing farm practices as instructed by farm management
  • Handling and maintaining tools and agricultural equipment
  • Performing labor-intensive tasks, including weeding, pruning, and harvesting
  • Adhering strictly to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations
  • Operating small machinery, such as brush cutters and chainsaws, where needed
  • Supporting farm staff in preparing fields and crop areas

Role Responsibility

The Seasonal Labourers will be instrumental in maintaining the farm’s productivity and assisting in day-to-day operations that support the ARC’s research goals. Responsibilities will vary throughout the contract period based on seasonal agricultural needs but will primarily involve:

  • Crop maintenance: weeding, pruning, thinning, and pest management
  • Harvesting fruits and preparing produce for post-harvest processes
  • Ensuring the cleanliness and readiness of farm tools and machinery
  • Observing safety procedures to prevent accidents and injuries
  • Reporting any issues or damages related to farm equipment
