Background & Job Description

ArcelorMittal South Africa, a subsidiary of the globally recognized ArcelorMittal Group, is calling on passionate and ambitious individuals to apply for its 2025 Learner Technician Programme. This opportunity is designed for students who have successfully completed S5 studies in key engineering disciplines and are seeking Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience to fulfill their qualifications from Universities of Technology.

Successful applicants will join a 12-month structured training programme, working under expert guidance and mentorship in a high-performance culture. This programme bridges the gap between academic learning and hands-on industrial experience, setting the foundation for a successful engineering career.


Tasks

As part of the Learner Technician Programme, your responsibilities will include:

  • Participating in practical training aligned with WIL (Work Integrated Learning) requirements
  • Working alongside engineering experts and plant professionals
  • Gaining exposure to industrial systems, manufacturing processes, and steel production
  • Assisting in technical evaluations, maintenance, and operational support
  • Contributing to safety improvement initiatives and plant efficiency projects
  • Maintaining technical documentation and data analysis
  • Collaborating on innovation projects for smarter steel solutions

Qualifications

To be eligible for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following academic and documentation requirements:

  • Completed S5 studies at a recognized South African University of Technology in one of the following fields:
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Instrumentation Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Chemical Engineering
    • Metallurgical Engineering
    • Industrial Engineering
  • Proven academic excellence and a sound understanding of theoretical engineering principles
