Introduction
The Baxter Theatre Centre, one of Cape Town’s premier cultural venues, is opening exciting opportunities for bartenders and baristas to join their team on an ad-hoc basis. Starting on 21 October 2025, fifteen positions are available for passionate individuals who are eager to contribute to the theatre’s vibrant atmosphere. This opportunity offers exposure to a dynamic environment where customer service, teamwork, and hospitality excellence come together.
What is Baxter Theatre?
The Baxter Theatre Centre is a renowned performing arts venue based at the University of Cape Town. Known for showcasing theatre, music, and dance performances, the centre attracts diverse audiences throughout the year. The bartenders and baristas play a vital role in enhancing the overall patron experience by providing efficient and friendly bar service before, during, and after shows.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Matric certificate or equivalent qualification (NQF4 level)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Fluency in English and at least one additional official language
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, independently and in a team
- Alertness with the ability to respond quickly in emergencies
- Strong customer service orientation
- Experience with electronic point-of-sale (POS) systems
Advantageous Qualifications and Experience:
- 3–5 years’ experience in the hospitality sector, particularly in food and beverages
Role Responsibility
The successful candidates will be responsible for:
- Delivering professional, friendly customer service to patrons and staff
- Serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages
- Processing orders and handling payments via the POS system
- Reconciling daily sales and cash transactions
- Monitoring and controlling stock
- Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene of bar equipment and service areas
- Ensuring compliance with the Liquor Act of the Western Cape
- Upholding the Baxter Theatre’s bar code of conduct
- Assisting with parking duties as required
