Job Description

BMA seeks responsible and skilled heavy-duty vehicle drivers to perform transportation duties, ensuring timely and secure movement of goods, personnel, and essential documents. The role requires adherence to strict operational protocols, road safety laws, and organizational procedures. The selected candidates will play a key role in upholding the integrity of South Africa’s border operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Vehicle Maintenance and Reporting
    • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicles are in optimal condition.
    • Report any damages, accidents, or mechanical issues promptly.
    • Maintain vehicle logs for fuel consumption, mileage, and maintenance records.
  • Transport and Delivery Duties
    • Safely transport BMA staff, documents, and materials between various locations.
    • Ensure prompt and efficient deliveries without delays.
    • Follow assigned routes while adhering to road safety laws and traffic regulations.
  • Safety and Compliance
    • Comply with the Border Management Authority Act, Public Service Regulations, and other relevant policies.
    • Securely handle and transport sensitive government documents.
    • Follow all workplace safety standards and road regulations.
  • Customer Service and Support
    • Assist passengers, including individuals with disabilities, ensuring comfort and safety.
    • Uphold a high standard of professionalism when dealing with colleagues and the public.
    • Maintain a clean, hygienic, and secure vehicle at all times.
  • Work Schedule Flexibility
    • Be prepared to work extended hours, weekends, and public holidays as needed.
    • Overtime may be required based on operational demands.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an experienced heavy-duty vehicle driver with a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and compliance. They should have extensive knowledge of road traffic regulations and demonstrate high levels of professionalism in all aspects of the job.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • Educational Requirements: Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification (NQF Level 4)
  • License Requirements: Code EC (unendorsed) driver’s license with a valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP) for categories P & G
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of professional experience driving heavy-duty vehicles, including buses and trucks
  • Knowledge Base:
    • Familiarity with the Border Management Authority Act
    • Understanding of Public Service Regulations and Road Safety Regulations
    • Strong grasp of general government operational systems

Role Responsibility

Daily Duties Include:

  • Ensuring all trips are conducted safely and efficiently
  • Performing basic mechanical checks before operating the vehicle
  • Completing transportation assignments as directed by supervisors
  • Managing vehicle upkeep, ensuring timely servicing and repairs
  • Responding to emergencies or road incidents in a professional manner
  • Adhering to security protocols for transporting sensitive goods and documents
