Bus Driver Vacancies (X3 Posts) at the Robben Island Museum The Robben Island Museum is currently inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for three Bus Driver positions. This opportunity is ideal for individuals with a passion for driving and a commitment to providing excellent service in a unique and historic environment. Job Title: Bus Driver (3 Posts)
Salary Range: R 240 160.38 – R 336 224.53 per annum

Purpose of the Job

The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the efficient and safe transportation of visitors and residents around Robben Island. This includes driving visitors to and from the prison and other island attractions, as well as shuttling residents between the harbor and their homes within the island village. Candidates must be willing to stay overnight on the island and work various shifts as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Visitor Transport: Follow a predetermined route and schedule to transport visitors to key sites on Robben Island.
  • Comfort Management: Adjust heating and ventilation systems to ensure passenger comfort during trips.
  • Safe Driving: Operate the bus at safe speeds in compliance with the National Roads Traffic Acts and regulations.
  • Passenger Safety: Ensure the safety of all passengers during boarding, transit, and disembarkation.
  • Vehicle Inspection: Perform daily inspections of the bus, checking water, fuel, oil, and overall mechanical condition.
  • Operational Records: Maintain detailed operational records and compile reports as necessary.
  • Issue Reporting: Report any vehicle defects, issues, or maintenance needs to the unit manager.
  • Maintenance Compliance: Adhere to scheduled maintenance instructions and guidelines.
  • Incident Management: Report any delays, accidents, or incidents promptly to the appropriate authorities.
  • Log Book Management: Keep an accurate log of daily operations by signing log books regularly.
  • Passenger Assistance: Assist elderly or disabled passengers with boarding and seating, ensuring they are secure and comfortable.
  • Communication: Inform passengers of any expected delays or changes in the schedule.
  • Accessibility Support: Regularly check and use wheel ramps to assist disabled passengers as needed.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: A minimum of Grade 10-12 education.
  • Licensing: A valid, unendorsed Driver’s Licence (Code 14) with a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
  • Training: Successful completion of a basic first aid and driving course.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of verifiable driving experience with both light and heavy vehicles.
  • Knowledge: A thorough understanding of safety rules and regulations governing vehicle operation.
  • Conduct: A clean driving record with no history of drunken driving offenses.
