Job Description
The General Assistant role at Cashbuild ensures outstanding customer service and smooth store operations. Your main duties will revolve around supporting customers, handling merchandise, and ensuring a clean, safe, and fully stocked retail space.
Core Duties Include:
- Providing helpful product guidance and support to customers
- Resolving customer queries and complaints effectively
- Loading and arranging stock according to the store layout
- Merchandising shelves and bulk stock areas as per planograms
- Ensuring price labels are correctly displayed in your designated area
- Keeping your area clean, organized, and free from hazards
- Reporting stock discrepancies and damaged items to the Store Manager
- Following OHSA safety procedures and using appropriate safety gear
- Completing daily checklists related to hygiene and stock presentation
- Working collaboratively with team members to meet store standards
Ideal Candidate
Cashbuild is seeking individuals who are proactive, detail-oriented, and passionate about delivering excellent customer experiences. This role is ideal for recent school graduates or individuals with limited work experience who are excited about joining the retail industry.
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 qualification (preferred) or Grade 10 with 1 year relevant experience
- Proficient in English and the dominant local language
- Ability to perform basic calculations and handle money accurately
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
- Physically fit and able to lift and move heavy stock
- Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and grow
Role Responsibility
As a General Assistant, you will be expected to maintain operational excellence by performing a range of responsibilities, including customer engagement, merchandising, and store maintenance.
Customer Interaction Responsibilities:
- Greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner
- Offer guidance on correct product use and availability
- Handle and resolve complaints or escalate where necessary
- Maintain high service standards throughout the customer experience
Merchandising Responsibilities:
- Unload and stock products safely and efficiently
- Arrange products according to layout plans and company guidelines
- Monitor stock levels and inform management of low or damaged stock
- Display correct shelf labels and maintain updated pricing
Store Maintenance and Safety:
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free environment
- Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) requirements
- Report and manage any unsafe conditions or incidents
- Complete canteen and hygiene checklists as assigned
