Minimum Requirements:
- Education: Grade 9
- Physical Ability: Must be capable of performing physical tasks and duties associated with waste management and refuse collection.
Core Responsibilities:
As a General Assistant, you will be involved in a wide range of duties aimed at maintaining a clean and safe environment. Your responsibilities will include:
- Refuse Collection: Collecting and removing refuse from residential, business, and industrial areas.
- Litter Management: Placing and removing litter bins, changing refuse bags, and physically cleaning litter from sidewalks, streets, and public parking areas.
- Vehicle Operation: Operating lifting and compaction controls of refuse vehicles, emptying 240 and 851-litre containers, and ensuring that vehicles are clean and well-greased.
- Spillage Management: Cleaning up any refuse spillage during collection and reporting defects on vehicle compaction units to the driver.
- Animal Removal: Removing animal carcasses from roads, houses, and veterinary locations.
- Compliance: Ensuring that all work adheres to Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) regulations.
