Background & Job Description

The City of Ekurhuleni invites young, enthusiastic individuals to apply for a learnership in the Department of Real Estate and Development Planning for 2024. This opportunity is designed to provide hands-on work experience and theoretical learning in the customer service and communication environment. The program supports the city’s commitment to youth development and skills enhancement through structured training and workplace integration.

This learnership targets unemployed youth residing within the City of Ekurhuleni who are passionate about customer relations and public service. As a participant, you will receive workplace training and theoretical education geared toward building a successful career in municipal services and client interaction roles.


Tasks

Training Responsibilities:

  • Participate fully in the learning and work experience opportunities provided.
  • Comply with all policies and procedures as set by the host employer.
  • Maintain and complete timesheets and other written assessments.
  • Attend theoretical sessions and undertake all assigned learning tasks.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and enthusiasm during the learning process.

Placement Responsibilities:

  • Handle inbound and outbound calls as part of customer support.
  • Efficiently process customer inquiries, orders, complaints, and support requests.
  • Follow company call scripts and service guidelines to ensure service quality.
  • Update customer records accurately on the system.
  • Ensure follow-up on unresolved issues for complete customer satisfaction.
  • Work cooperatively with other team members and leadership to enhance customer experiences.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct in all duties.

Qualifications

To be considered for this learnership opportunity, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent qualification
  • Must be a South African Citizen
  • Reside within the City of Ekurhuleni (Proof of residence required)
  • Must be computer literate
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Customer service orientation is essential
  • Must be willing to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays

Experience

  • No prior work experience is required.
  • This is an entry-level opportunity aimed at individuals with no previous formal employment.
