The City of Johannesburg’s Department of Community Development is hiring Relief Workers for its Library and Information Services Branch. This role is designed to empower the youth with essential skills, offering a monthly stipend of R3,500. Successful candidates will assist librarians, manage daily library operations, and provide public support services in various regions throughout Johannesburg.

Minimum Requirements

- Educational Qualification: Matric/Grade 12 (NQF level 4)
- Work Experience: Open only to first-time participants in this specific program.
- Skills: Basic computer literacy required.
- Residency: Open to City of Johannesburg residents only.
- Target Group: Youth within the Johannesburg community.
Primary Function
The Relief Worker will assist Senior Librarians and Librarians in delivering quality library and information services to the public. This includes support with administrative duties and day-to-day library operations.
Key Learning Areas and Responsibilities
This position provides hands-on experience in the following areas:
- Administrative Support: Help with filing, cataloging, and other library operational tasks.
- Public Service: Engage with library visitors, answer inquiries, and help maintain a welcoming environment.
- Technology Use: Operate library software, manage digital resources, and support patrons with basic computer use.
