Salary and Benefits
- Annual Salary Scale: R150,048 – R175,368
- Estimated Total Remuneration Package: R222,917 – R255,145
The primary purpose of the General Worker role is to assist artisans with the general maintenance and repair of the water distribution network. The goal is to ensure that water infrastructure is maintained efficiently, contributing to the continuous delivery of water services across the city.
Key Responsibilities
As a General Worker, you will perform the following tasks:
- Cleaning and Maintenance: Ensure that work areas, offices, vehicles, and facilities are clean and well-maintained to promote a safe working environment.
- Trench Work: Excavate, backfill, and remove materials from trenches using shovels, pickaxes, rakes, and rammers to repair leaking pipes.
- Material Handling: Load, unload, move, and store materials, equipment, and supplies by hand.
- Equipment Operation: Operate water pumps, clean tools, and machinery to ensure smooth operations.
- Site Clean-Up: Clear work sites of debris and materials after repairs are completed to maintain safe environments.
Requirements and Qualifications
To be eligible for the General Worker position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Basic Literacy: The ability to read and write.
- Relevant Experience: Experience in general maintenance of water distribution networks will be an added advantage.
- Physical Fitness: Good physical health with no history of back problems.
- Work Schedule Flexibility: Willingness and ability to work shifts, standby, and overtime when required.
