Position Overview
Claims Officer x40 – Road Accident Fund (RAF) The Road Accident Fund (RAF) is recruiting forty (40) Claims Officers to strengthen its Operations Division across seven departments:
- Settlement Hub (10 positions)
- Determination (5 positions)
- Mediation (5 positions)
- Litigation (5 positions)
- Payment Hub (5 positions)
- Merits (5 positions)
- Adjudication (5 positions)
These are 18-month fixed-term contract roles aimed at supporting the RAF’s core mission: providing timely, fair, and compassionate compensation to individuals affected by road accidents.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct preliminary assessments of litigated files.
- Investigate, evaluate, and settle claims using legal and interpersonal expertise.
- Report complex and high-exposure claims for reinsurance purposes.
- Assess loss of earnings, loss of support, funeral, and medical expenses.
- Perform merit and quantum evaluations, including general damages under both old and new Acts.
- Handle block settlements and court order processing.
- Appoint assessors for verification processes.
- Review writs, perform bridge reporting, and approve settlement offers.
- Identify cases requiring escalated litigation and ensure legal protocols are followed.
- Prepare files for attorneys, provide litigation strategy input, and track trial readiness.
- Report on trial outcomes and negotiated settlements.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications:
- A four-year Degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent qualification.
- Admission as an Attorney of the High Court or as an Advocate is mandatory.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in claims or litigation.
Skills and Competencies
Technical Competencies:
- Proficient knowledge of court procedures and litigation rules.
- Strong understanding of RAF litigation infrastructure and internal workflows.
- Sound knowledge of legal analysis, numerical reasoning, and statistical reporting.
- High-level proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
