Background & Job Description
The CSIR, one of South Africa’s leading scientific and research institutions, in collaboration with merSETA, is calling for applications for its 2025 Internship Programme. This initiative is crafted to nurture young South African graduates by equipping them with real-world, industry-relevant experience.
Interns will be exposed to dynamic and innovative projects that contribute to the development of technology and socio-economic upliftment in South Africa. This one-year opportunity is structured to combine technical mentoring, applied learning, and professional development within a hybrid working environment based in Pretoria.
Tasks
Selected interns will:
- Work under the mentorship of senior researchers and engineers
- Participate in experimental and research projects across chosen disciplines
- Assist with technical documentation and laboratory work
- Apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
- Attend professional training workshops
- Present findings and project outcomes where applicable
Qualifications
To be considered, applicants must meet the following educational requirements:
- Hold a completed National Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent qualification in one of the following fields:
- Software Engineering
- Mechatronics / Robotics Engineering
- Metallurgical Engineering
- Physics
- Electronic Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Chemistry
Experience
While this internship is targeted at recent graduates, candidates should demonstrate:
- Strong academic performance
