Introduction
The Department of Employment and Labour (Compensation Fund) has officially opened applications for its Graduate Internship Programme 2025/2026. This two-year programme is designed to provide unemployed South African graduates with hands-on work experience in line with their academic qualifications. It offers structured workplace training, mentorship, and exposure to operations that will build practical skills and enhance employability in both the public and private sectors.

What is Department of Employment and Labour Graduate Internships?
The Graduate Internship Programme is a structured 24-month workplace training initiative aimed at unemployed youth. Participants will be placed across different divisions within the department, where they will receive mentorship and be exposed to the day-to-day functions of government work. The goal is to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and professional experience, equipping graduates with the tools they need to succeed in the job market.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen with a valid ID
  • Must be unemployed and not currently enrolled in studies or training
  • Must hold a relevant qualification as specified in the different internship streams
  • Must have never participated in an internship programme before

Role Responsibility:
Successful applicants will be expected to:

  • Contribute to the daily operations of their allocated division
  • Assist in implementing policies, procedures, and departmental projects
  • Undertake administrative, auditing, legal, financial, or compliance-related tasks depending on placement
  • Participate actively in training and mentorship activities
  • Provide professional support that enhances departmental service delivery
