Health Focus: Requirements
In order to qualify for the Professional Nurse Specialty positions, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Education: Grade 12, with a diploma or degree in Nursing accredited by the South African Nursing Council (SANC). The qualification must align with Government Notice 425.
- Experience:
- Grade 1: At least 4 years of nursing experience post-registration with SANC in general nursing.
- Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years post-registration experience, with at least 10 years of experience in a specific specialty after obtaining a 1-year post-basic qualification in that area.
- Specialization: Candidates must have completed a post-basic nursing qualification of at least one year in the specialized area (Theater, Trauma, Advanced Midwifery, Child Nursing, Critical Care, Neonatology, Orthopedics).
- Licensing: Valid 2024 SANC receipt and service records must be attached to the application.
- Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of nursing care processes, procedures, statutes, National Core Standards, the Nursing Act, and other legal frameworks. Skills in leadership, organizational management, financial budgeting, communication, and report writing are essential. Computer literacy and a driver’s license are advantageous.
