Essential Qualifications and Requirements

To qualify for this role, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC): You must possess a qualification that allows you to register as a Staff Nurse with the SANC. Additionally, you should be registered as an Enrolled Nurse and have a current registration for 2024.
  2. No Prior Experience Required: While prior experience is not mandatory, exposure to Medicine and Psychiatry, Surgery and Ophthalmology, and Clinical support is advantageous.
  3. Key Competencies and Skills:
  • Nursing Legislation Knowledge: A basic understanding of nursing legislation and related legal and ethical practices is essential.
  • Effective Communication Skills: Proficiency in communicating with patients, supervisors, and colleagues is crucial.
  • Resource Management: Ability to utilize resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Teamwork: Ability to function as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Basic Writing Skills: Competence in basic communication and writing skills.

Primary Responsibilities

As a Staff Nurse, your core responsibilities will include:

  1. Clinical Nursing Care: Provide basic clinical nursing care in line with the scope of practice and nursing standards. This includes developing and implementing patient care plans to ensure high-quality patient care.
  2. Legal and Ethical Adherence: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of relevant legal and ethical frameworks, including Acts, policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), guidelines, and protocols governing public service and nursing practice.
  3. Ideal Hospital Realization: Have a fundamental understanding of the principles of Ideal Hospital Realization and maintenance.
  4. Resource Utilization and Record Keeping: Ensure the efficient use of resources and maintain accurate record-keeping.
  5. Effective Communication: Maintain effective communication with patients, supervisors, and colleagues.
  6. Rotational Duties: Be willing to rotate through various departments and work night shifts as required.
  7. Professional Development: Maintain professional growth, ethical standards, and self-development.
  8. Collaborative Teamwork: Work as part of a multidisciplinary team and support managers to ensure quality nursing care.
