What is Dis-Chem Pharmacies Learnership Programme?
The Retail Cosmetics Learnership Programme at Dis-Chem is a structured training and workplace programme designed to equip learners with both theoretical and practical knowledge. Participants will gain experience in customer service, stock management, merchandising, sales, and promotions. This learnership is ideal for individuals who want to start a career in retail, particularly in the beauty and cosmetics sector, while working for one of South Africa’s leading pharmacy retailers.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Matric / Grade 12 qualification
- Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays
- Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Advantageous Experience
- Previous experience in a beauty, retail, or cosmetics environment
Role Responsibility
As a learner, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Stock Control
- Ensuring products are fresh, undamaged, and within sell-by dates
- Keeping shelves stocked and neatly presented
- Participating in stock takes and reporting shortages or damages
- Rotating stock as per company procedures
- Maintaining a clean and well-organized storeroom
Merchandising
- Presenting products attractively and customer-friendly
- Ensuring high standards of cleanliness in displays
- Assisting with makeovers, cosmetic demonstrations, and promotions
- Correctly pricing and labeling items
- Supporting with stock loading and off-loading
Customer Service
- Providing professional, friendly assistance to customers
- Processing payments at the Cosmetics Department tills
- Addressing customer queries effectively
- Promoting products and supporting sales targets with product knowledge

- Listening and interpersonal skills

- Trustworthiness and honesty
- Basic financial understanding
- Time management and independence in task handling
- Computer literacy
Conditions of Employment
- Must be a South African citizen
- Clear criminal and credit record (MIE screening applies)
- Ability to work flexi-hours, weekends, and public holidays
Remuneration and Benefits
Learners will receive a monthly stipend while completing the programme.
