Job Description

Minimum Requirements
To be considered for the Dispensary Support Learnership Programme, candidates must meet the following academic and personal criteria:

- Pure Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy)
- Life Sciences or Physical Science
- A minimum average of 50% across all subjects
- South African citizenship
- No prior qualifications or experience as a pharmacist assistant
- Not currently registered with SAPC as a pharmacist assistant
- Willingness to commit to the full duration of the learnership
- Availability for shift and weekend work
Role Responsibilities
As a Dispensary Support Learner, your primary duties and responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
- Assisting in the sale of Schedule 1 medicines under supervision.
- Supporting the compounding, preparation, and handling of non-sterile medicines.
- Unpacking and merchandising dispensary and over-the-counter (OTC) stock.
- Interpreting prescriptions and ensuring legal compliance under pharmacist supervision.
- Assisting with:
- Picking, packing, and labelling of medication
- Stock control and expiry date monitoring
- Script tracking and patient appointment follow-ups
- Managing patient calls and call centre scripts
- Promoting health information to customers
- Handling scheme authorizations (e.g., chronic, HIV, oncology meds)
- Reporting low/out-of-stock items to the dispensary manager
- Receiving and managing dispensary stock per SOP
All responsibilities are performed under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and according to the operational procedures of Dis-Chem Pharmacies.
