Introduction
Dis-Chem Pharmacies invites young and motivated individuals to apply for the Dispensary Support Learnerships 2025. This programme equips learners with the skills, knowledge, and workplace experience required to complete the Basic Pharmacist Assistant Course. Learners are employed on a fixed-term basis until they are registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as learner basic assistants. Once qualified, successful candidates may be considered for permanent positions as basic pharmacist assistants at Dis-Chem Pharmacies.
What is the Dis-Chem Dispensary Support Learnership?
The Dispensary Support Learnership is a structured training initiative designed to prepare learners for a career in pharmacy. It combines classroom instruction with practical workplace experience in Dis-Chem dispensaries. The programme is tailored for individuals with a strong interest in healthcare and pharmaceuticals, offering them a pathway to build a meaningful and sustainable career.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 12 (Matric) with Pure Mathematics
- Physical Science or Life Science as an additional subject
- Minimum 50% average pass in final results
Role Responsibility
As a Dispensary Support Learner, your responsibilities will include:
- Selling Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances
- Assisting with compounding, manipulation, and preparation of non-sterile medicines
- Unpacking and merchandising stock while maintaining clean dispensary and OTC shelves
- Accurately interpreting prescriptions under pharmacist supervision
- Picking, packing, labelling, and checking medication
- Managing stock by monitoring expiry dates and ensuring correct organisation
- Providing health-related information to promote awareness
- Assisting with scheme authorisations for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication
- Handling patient follow-ups, call centre scripts, and service calls
- Reporting shortages or errors to the Dispensary Manager
- Receiving dispensary stock in line with company SOPs
Skills and Attributes
Dis-Chem is seeking candidates who demonstrate:
- Proficiency in English and at least one additional language (reading, writing, and speaking)
- Strong time management skills and ability to perform under pressure
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Attention to detail with strong problem-solving abilities

- Basic computer literacy and good numerical skills
