Role Responsibilities

As a Security Guard, you will play a vital role in maintaining safety and security. Your primary responsibilities include:

  • Crime Prevention: Stay vigilant to identify and deter criminal activities or disorder. Apprehend violators while adhering to legal and company protocols.
  • Regular Patrols: Conduct random patrols to maintain visibility, reduce risks, and discourage criminal activities.
  • Access Control: Monitor and document vehicle and pedestrian access to the premises, ensuring only authorized individuals enter.
  • Incident Reporting: Investigate and report any signs of damage, unlawful entry, or suspicious activities.
  • Customer Relations: Maintain professionalism by being courteous and approachable to guests, customers, and employees.
  • Asset Protection: Guard company property against theft, damage, or any form of malicious behavior.
  • Frisking and Searches: Perform personnel and vehicle searches to maintain security standards.
  • Emergency Response: Provide assistance during emergencies by alerting relevant authorities and offering support to first responders.
  • Surveillance: Monitor alarm systems, video cameras, and emergency equipment to detect and respond to security breaches.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Enforce rules and regulations, ensuring adherence to Dis-Chem’s operating procedures and industry standards.

Minimum Requirements

Essential:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or Senior Certificate.
  • Grade C accreditation with PSIRA.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the retail security environment, such as shopping malls or warehouses.

Advantageous:

  • A minimum of 1-year experience in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in an additional language.

Competencies and Skills

Essential:

  • PSIRA knowledge and compliance.
  • Exposure to fire emergency and health and safety protocols.
  • Strong communication skills in English (read, write, and speak).

Advantageous:

  • Fluency in a third language.

Special Conditions of Employment

  • PSIRA registration and Grade C accreditation.
  • South African citizenship with clear criminal and credit records.
  • Valid driver’s license and own reliable transport (PDP required for drivers).
