Positions for Pharmacist Interns are available across various Dis-Chem Pharmacies located in multiple provinces.
The primary goal of this internship is to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of core pharmaceutical principles while fostering a commitment to continuous quality learning. Interns will play a critical role in addressing patients’ medication needs, thereby delivering exceptional pharmaceutical care and top-tier customer service.
Roles and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, interns will engage in a range of tasks, including but not limited to:
- Medicine Sales: Handling the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances.
- Compounding and Preparation: Assisting in the compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile or sterile medicines or scheduled substances according to approved formulas and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Manufacturing: Aiding in the manufacturing of non-sterile or sterile medicines or scheduled substances based on approved formulas and SOPs.
- Re-packaging: Engaging in the re-packaging of medicines.
Minimum Requirements
Essential:
- Education: Completed Grade 12 / Matric.
- Qualification: Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) – a 4-year degree.
- Skills: Proficiency in MS Office applications.
Advantageous:
- Experience: Previous work experience during degree studies, such as holiday work.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with Unisolve and E-Scripting systems.

- Language Proficiency: Fluent in English and at least one other language (ability to read, write, and speak).
- Knowledge Application: Ability to apply knowledge gained from the B.Pharm curriculum.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Customer Service: Strong focus on delivering superior customer service.
- Conflict Management: Proficient in handling conflicts effectively.
- Attention to Detail: Keen attention to detail.
- Numerical Skills: Strong numerical abilities.

- Industry Knowledge: Understanding of Retail/FMCG operations.
- Language Skills: Proficiency in a third language.
- Specialized Knowledge: Knowledge of drug and family planning, as well as complementary medicine.
Special Conditions of Employment
- Work Hours: Willingness to work retail hours.
- Environment: Ability to work in environments with controlled room temperatures, limited space, and strict security measures, adhering to health and safety regulations.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Transport: Valid driver’s license and reliable transport.
- Registration: Must be registered with the South African Pharmacy Council or hold a valid work permit.
- Background Check: Clear credit and criminal records.
