What is Marula Platinum Mine Engineering Learnership?
The Marula Platinum Mine Engineering Learnership is a formal training initiative designed to provide unemployed youth with the opportunity to gain skills in critical engineering disciplines. Through a mix of classroom instruction and on-the-job training, learners are prepared to qualify as artisans while contributing to the success of one of South Africa’s leading platinum producers.

- Diesel Mechanic
- Boilermaker Plater
- Electrical
- Fitting, including Machining
The learnership ensures participants gain both theoretical knowledge and practical expertise, making them industry-ready.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for the Marula Platinum Mine Engineering Learnership, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Educational Qualifications
- Grade 12 / Standard 10 / NQF Level 4 equivalent (essential)
- Minimum of N2 certificate with four completed subjects, or an NCV Level 4 qualification with trade-related subjects
Assessments
- Knowledge assessment
- Psychometric testing
- Formal interview
Fitness Requirements
- Valid Medical Fitness Certificate (Red Ticket)
- Must pass Heat Tolerance Screening (HTS)
Role Responsibility
Learners who are selected will be expected to:
- Participate in structured training to qualify as artisans
- Assist experienced artisans with repairing, replacing, and maintaining mining equipment
- Complete both theoretical and practical phases of engineering training
- Adhere to Marula Mine’s rules, regulations, and safety standards
- Perform fault diagnosis and resolve technical problems
- Prepare technical reports and assist with preventative maintenance
- Gain supervised exposure to leadership and supervisory tasks
