Introduction
EPWP Law Enforcement Learnership 2025 The Raymond Mhlaba Local Municipality, in collaboration with the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), has opened the doors to opportunity for unemployed youth across its jurisdiction. The municipality is proud to present 10 Law Enforcement Learnership opportunities aimed at promoting skills development, youth employment, and community safety. These learnerships serve as a gateway into the public sector and law enforcement careers, providing theoretical and practical training for young people eager to serve their communities.
Designed to empower local residents between the ages of 18 and 35, this programme aligns with national and municipal goals of reducing youth unemployment while improving community law enforcement capacity. Successful candidates will not only benefit from structured learning and mentorship but will also receive a monthly stipend for the duration of the 12-month programme.
Job Description:
The learnership is focused on Law Enforcement within the municipality and forms part of the broader EPWP initiative. Candidates will be trained in various areas related to public safety and municipal by-law enforcement. This opportunity is designed to equip individuals with foundational knowledge and workplace experience in the field of law enforcement.
Learners will undergo both classroom-based instruction and on-the-job training. They will be placed in different municipal offices within the Raymond Mhlaba Local Municipality and expected to support the operations of those units. This includes duties such as patrolling public areas, ensuring by-law compliance, supporting community policing initiatives, and participating in crime prevention awareness campaigns.
Throughout the programme, learners will be evaluated on their performance, attendance, commitment, and practical application of skills learned. Successful completion of the programme may enhance employment opportunities within municipal law enforcement units or other government departments.
Requirements:
Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria to be considered for the Law Enforcement Learnership programme:
- Must have completed Grade 12 (Matric certificate required)
- Be between the ages of 18 and 35 years
- Must reside within the Raymond Mhlaba Local Municipality jurisdiction
- Must provide a confirmation letter from their local Ward Councillor (Note: this is not a proof of residence)
- Must be willing to commit to the full 12-month programme
- Must submit a comprehensive and updated Curriculum Vitae
- Certified copies of the Matric Certificate and South African Identity Document are mandatory
- Must be unemployed at the time of application
- Applicants must not be participating in any other learnership or internship programme
Role Responsibility:
Participants in the learnership programme will be responsible for:
- Assisting municipal officials with law enforcement operations
- Enforcing municipal by-laws under supervision
- Supporting public safety and traffic control activities
- Participating in community safety education campaigns
- Assisting with administrative duties within the law enforcement division
- Attending scheduled training sessions, workshops, and performance reviews
- Conducting patrols and reporting unlawful behaviour to supervisors
- Demonstrating professionalism, punctuality, and discipline at all times
- Building positive relationships with the community and promoting municipal integrity
