Background & Job Description
Eskom, South Africa’s leading power utility company, is offering an exciting Learnership Programme for 2025 aimed at developing qualified candidates into proficient Plant Operators within the energy generation environment. This initiative is specifically aligned with Eskom’s strategic intent to invest in the development of critical skills in the nuclear and energy sector.
This structured training programme will combine academic learning and practical on-site experience at the Koeberg Nuclear Power Station, the only nuclear power station in Africa. The Learner Plant Operator Learnership is a golden opportunity for young, driven individuals who want to develop a rewarding career in the energy sector.
Tasks
Selected candidates will be trained to perform a variety of operational duties under supervision, such as:
- Participating in plant operations in accordance with Eskom’s operating standards
- Monitoring plant equipment performance
- Conducting checks and reports to ensure safe and efficient functioning
- Participating in emergency response procedures
- Adhering to safety, environmental, and operational protocols
Qualifications
To be eligible for the learnership programme, applicants must meet at least one of the following academic criteria:
- National N6 Certificate with trade-related subjects OR
- National Diploma / B Tech / B Eng / BSc Eng in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Electronics Engineering OR
- National N4 or N5 Certificate with trade-related subjects OR
- Grade 12 with a minimum of:
- 50% in Mathematics
- 50% in Physical Science
- 40% in English
OR
- N3 Certificate with a minimum of:
- 50% in Mathematics
- 50% in Science
- 40% in English
OR
- NCV Level 4 with:
- 50% in Mathematics
- 50% in Science
- 40% in English
Note: All applicants must be South African citizens.
Experience
No prior experience is required. However:
- All applicants will undergo a recruitment and selection process
- Successful candidates will be placed in Eskom operations across various divisions, subject to available placements and training needs
