Exxaro Resources, one of South Africa’s largest and foremost black-empowered mining companies, is hiring for two permanent Security Officer positions at its Grootegeluk Coal Business Unit in Lephalale, Limpopo. Job Description
The purpose of the Security Officer role is to carry out physical security duties and ensure the safe and secure operations of the Grootegeluk Coal site. Successful candidates will provide a visible security presence, enforce site protocols, monitor access points, and respond to incidents in a proactive and compliant manner.
Key duties include but are not limited to:
Customer, Stakeholder and Client Relationship Management
- Maintain communication with client supervisors regarding daily tasks and duties
- Perform escort duties for visitors and personnel across different mining areas
- Support direct supervisors with special tasks as assigned
Risk Control Operations
- Patrol mine premises on foot or using a designated vehicle
- React to security alarms and incidents as a first responder
- Monitor and control access to company property and critical areas
- Perform administrative duties relevant to security operations
- Inspect fire equipment, crowd control gear, and emergency vehicles
- Assist in crime scene management and evidence collection
- Participate in crowd control operations and attend official functions
- Help recruit informers and gather intelligence to prevent risk exposure
Safe and Healthy Work Environment
- Maintain a safe working environment and ensure operational health standards
- Comply with all relevant SHE (Safety, Health, and Environmental) policies
- Promote a safety-first culture among colleagues and visitors
- Wear and enforce the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Ideal Candidate
To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate must demonstrate physical fitness, a commitment to safety, and the ability to remain alert and observant in all operational circumstances. Prior experience in industrial or mining security settings is highly desirable.
Role Responsibility
As a Security Officer, you will be accountable for the implementation and monitoring of site security practices to protect personnel, property, and infrastructure. You will be expected to manage risk proactively and assist with emergency responses when necessary.
Responsibilities include:
- Performing routine and ad hoc patrols
- Managing access and egress points
- Responding to incidents and performing initial investigations
- Supporting company safety protocols and ensuring compliance with regulations
- Coordinating with law enforcement or emergency services when required

Minimum Requirements
Educational Qualifications:
- Grade 12 / Standard 10 (Essential)
- Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) Grade C Certificate (Essential)
Experience:
- 1 to 2 years of relevant security experience in an operational or industrial setting (Essential)
Certifications and Licenses:
- Valid Code B Public Driver’s License (Essential)
- Valid Certificate of Fitness (Essential)
- Successful completion of Psychometric Assessment (Essential)
- Registered with Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA)
