The role of a Firefighter at Sasol involves safeguarding company assets, legal partnerships, and operational environments from incidents related to Safety, Health, Environment, Risk, and Quality (SHERQ). Firefighters play a pivotal role in emergency preparedness and response, ensuring Sasol’s operations continue seamlessly.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
As a Junior to Leading Firefighter in Maintenance, you will:
- Uphold SHE best practices in emergency management activities.
- Participate in training to maintain mental and physical fitness for emergency response.
- Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations.
- Recondition firefighting and life support equipment.
- Service all portable firefighting equipment within facilities.
- Identify and propose improvements in emergency management processes and service delivery.
- Suggest and contribute to safety enhancements across operations.
- Collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure effective team performance.
- Participate in Key Performance Area (KPA) and Personal Development Plan (PDP) discussions to track progress.
- Engage in housekeeping activities to maintain a safe working environment.
Requirements for the Role
Educational Qualifications:
- Grade 12 with Mathematical Literacy or equivalent (minimum requirement).
- Firefighter 1 & 2 (NFPA 1001) certification (preferred).
- HPCSA-registered and current Basic Ambulance Assistant (BAA) or First Aid Level 3 (preferred).
- HPCSA-registered and current Intermediate Life Support (ILS) certification (preferred).
- Hazmat Awareness and Operations (NFPA 1072/472) certification (preferred).
Experience:
- 0–5 years of relevant experience.
Fitness Requirements:
- Medically fit according to Firefighter-specific fitness assessment standards.
